Speed of Sound Over Colors - Sonic Chromatic

'Marlee Matlin' quoted "Every one of us is different in some way, but for those of us who are more different, we have to put more effort into convincing the less different that we can do the same thing they can, just differently." Which is well framed and true when in reference to the people who are challenged physically. Despite of the break of attitude in most of the people toward this group in the recent years, some of them still tend to treat them differently. In this article the focus would be on the hard of hearing community. Its not just them but any person physically challenged would not like to be looked down or sympathized with. They do want to prove that they are not dependent on someone for their work as the quote goes.

With the breakthrough in technology, unleashing wide range of possibilities definitely are bringing about profound changes to people like them increasing the easiness and the adaptability of life. This gives the opportunity to the deaf community to break out of the walls and explore into the world in their own way. For instance, the famous TV reality show, 'Amazing Race' casts its first deaf contestant where he communicated using the American Sign Language. Also a play "Love Person" in which there where use of multiple languages, American Sign Language being one of them. International Deaf Film Festivals that are held globally also contribute to the same cause.

In the recent years, technology has been assisting the deaf to bring down the barriers in their battle in regard to communication. The struggles don't keep the deaf artist holding their art to just canvas, but with the introduction of contemporary art, they are provided with the wind beneath their wings to explore in the multitude mediums of art. They express their view of the world through their language. Once looking at their art would surely leave the viewer to never think of the deaf as people with disability but that a minority with its own language and culture.

Tamarind Art Council and Deaf Council are proud to present their inaugural joint exhibition "Sonic Chromatic" - a group show featuring the works of Deaf or hard of hearing artists. This group of ten artists communicates through a variety of media such as painting, printmaking, sculpture, video, installation to name a few.
